Retro Wallpapers?

So we went to our first Visual Comm class thinking that this is all about Visual Communication, but apparently, its so much more. Its about creating something, images, visuals or what nots, with or without a message, but the ultimate is to come up with something creative. We were split into groups, our group consists of Arnie (Shaneez) and Azu (Azlyf). We were to come up with a wallpaper, that surrounds the theme retro, and it could be a pattern, an artwork, anything we pleased, as long as it is retro. Sounded interesting so far, until we realized the end product is all silk screen. Sounded a bit scary at first, given that we didn't silk screen our Calligraphy T shirts last semester, and for some classes it was mandatory, so they tried it out, with trial and error they got a satisfying end product. So for us, this would be the first time experimenting with silk screening. Nevertheless, it sounds fun.

We had to come up with a mindmap that could lead to all possible ideas that could be used to make a retro wallpaper. The example our lecturer Li Wen demonstrated was quite fun, ideas could lead from bedroom, to bedroom furniture, to the bathroom, and what business people did in there. :D So that was the basic idea.

So Azu and myself, came up with our mind map. We decided to not only make our artwork retro, but make the concept a bit retro it self. So our main ideas revolved around

*Music in the 60s --> Janice Joplin --> The doors --> Woodstock --> Drugs, sex and rock and roll
*Vintage Vehicles --> Cars --> Mustangs --> Vintage Volkswagen Beetle
*Art --> Pop art --> Andy Warhol
*Pin up --> Bond girls

So we were to come up with a cleaner and presentable version of the mindmap for next week. So here's what we came up with

And Azu on display with the mindmap XD

So finally after much thought, we decided on the theme Music in the 60's and what better way to summaries that than "Drugs, Sex and Rock 'n' roll" eh? :D
